The Mitzvah Chavurah at Congregation Etz Chayim has served many meals to congregants in times of need, whether they are  healing, recovering from illness or grieving a loss. Hundreds of congregants have attended shiva minyans, enabling fellow congregants to say kaddish for their loved ones in their own community. Members of the Mitzvah Chavurah have helped with rides, run errands, or just been there for others.

But after the crisis is past or the shiva is over, problems, pain, loneliness or sadness can persist. And the members of Etz Chayim still want to help. Going forward, the Mitzvah Chavurah will continue to help the congregation with meals and shiva minyans. But we are adding a way to continue to help.

Jeff Dean and Sue Benjamin have joined Mitzvah Chavurah cochairs Liz Shane and Sue Weber as new chairs of the Mensch Committee. The Mensch Committee will work in close partnership with the Mitzvah Chavurah to reach out—one-to-one—to the congregation, following up in the months after a death in the family or checking up when a congregant is listed on the healing list.

Are you interested being part of the Mitzvah Chavurah? Do you want to help the Mensch Committee follow-up and reach out to congregants in need? Do you need help or do you know someone who needs help?

Send us an email at MitzvahChavurahChair@etzchayim.org and we'll gladly add you to our email list. It's an easy way to be involved in the Etz Chayim community in a meaningful way.
